Programs & Services

RightsPlus Canada publishes and disseminates human rights education materials to raise awareness and empower the target communities and stakeholders.  It also connects low-income people with free legal aid program of various community legal clinic. It implements human rights-based projects in the community. RightsPlus Canada consults with the community people to identify their issues and support them to fight against injustice and human rights violations.

 

RightsPlus Canada arranges information sessions, training, workshop etc. for seniors, youth, immigrants and refugees in need and other support services like community tax clinic. It also provides referral services for the community.

Khadijah has conceptualized, planned, developed, executed and monitored numerous projects for a variety of NGOs and INGOs. Collaborating with the World Health Organization in Sierra Leone during the Ebola outbreak, she built capacity of the frontline staff to control the spread of disease. In Afghanistan, she led needs assessment, strategic planning, coordinated, management and M&E for the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development on a project impacting 31,000+ staff. She has made significant contributions to poverty alleviation, capacity building, sustainable livelihoods, strengthening civil society institutions and governance through the Aga Khan Agency for Microfinance, Momentum, BC Public Guardian and Trustee, Elections Canada, Elections Ontario and Family Services of Greater Vancouver. 

Hasan played a pivotal role in mainstreaming rights based approach and responsive governance across ActionAid South Asia region. He possess sound knowledge of social determinants of poverty, systemic discrimination, health care policies and practices and the ability to successfully operate within a complex system to connect marginalized people with resources that suit their needs. 

Stem from the belief that people themselves can change their own life, Hasan has been a great advocate of capacity building and empowerment based approach with individuals facing myriad of challenges. 

While working for LAS, Memon conducted mobile outreach legal clinics in rural areas of Pakistan. He has also assisted in the launch of a free legal aid call center in Pakistan. 

Memon completed his Master of Laws (LLM) from Osgoode Professional Development and has recently called to the Bar of Ontario. He is now working as a Lawyer, Barrister and Solicitor, in Toronto, Ontario. 

Zakir was invited by the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner in Geneva to share his experience in an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) held in Switzerland in January 2013. He was one of the presenters in a workshop organized by the UNESCO during the 6th International Conference on Adult Education held in Brazil in December 2009. Australian National University and World Vision Australia selected his paper to present in the International Conference on Measuring Effectiveness: Participation, Empowerment and Downward Accountability held in Melbourne, Australia in September 2008. One of his initiatives was awarded as an innovative adult education model in the Regional Conference in Support of Global Literacy held in New Delhi, India in November 2007. He received Bob Luker Community Award from George Brown College, Toronto, Canada in recognition for his contribution to community development.

 

Zakir holds 2 Bachelor and 2 Master Degrees in social science and law. His recent Master of Law (LL.M) degree is from the Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada.

Maria Nandago is an international sustainable development professional with 20 years’ work experience involving National, Regional and International engagements in more than 15 countries. She is a human rights development approaches specialist, passionate about women and older persons’ rights and empowerment, gender equality and promoting social justice, transparency and accountability. 

 

Maria has an extensive experience in designing and management of community development programs that are premised on the principles of community participation and empowerment. She possess excellent skills in capacity development, participatory development, program design and management, policy analysis, leadership and gender mainstreaming which she has built and applied over the years working with International Development Agencies at community, national and international level. She sits on Executive boards of four NGOs in Uganda and Lesotho and is a member of the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE).

 

Maria holds the Masters’ Degree in Sustainable International Development from the Heller School for Social Policy and management, Brandeis University, USA.
